Ending the Demand for Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking

We are often asked the question, what is fueling the demand for child sex trafficking and will it ever end? For most people it is hard to imagine that grown men are having sex with, paying for, and raping children. Yet this is happening with such frequency that this crime, human trafficking, is the fastest growing crime in the world. (Harris K., 2012)

One explanation for this huge demand for children is the link between pornography and domestic minor sex trafficking. As more and more research takes place in this area it has been determined that the human brain demonstrates the same chemical response when taking drugs as it does when consuming pornography (Hilton, D.L. and Watts, C. 2011). This may not happen to a person the first time he or she views pornography, but can occur over a period of time.

Because of the similarities between drug use and pornography there is a reason for concern. A drug addict must consistently increase the dosage to get the same high; a person who consumes pornography often has the need to increase the dosage to get the same high. Consumption of pornography increases with this level of addiction and can lead to fetish pornography including child pornography. (Paul, P., 2007). This in turn can lead to violent acts against women and children.

Rivers of Justice is committed to preventing children from becoming victims of sex trafficking. As we work to accomplish our mission we are partnering with Jason Johnston an excellent communicator in the area of pornography addiction recovery. You may read Jason’s biography and a testimonial from Larry Ferris, Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Easley, SC. We have outlined specific areas of training available and included Jason’s YouTube link.
